This face
was one of the things I missed most
while I was recently out of the country for two weeks!
It was, however, one of the things that convinced me to come back -
or else I might still be in Scotland!

Spring postponed
A surprise snow fall dumped a foot
yesterday...
not that anyone is complaining
at our house.
What snow babies!

Is it spring yet?
It may still be rainy and cold outside...
but my girls are ready for sunny days -
and all blooming things!

Spring = dirt!
Melting snow which leaves behind these -
also means the ground is soft enough for digging...
which I didn't notice
until a certain puppy was inside!
I'm pretty sure Oreo is telling me
that Pearl told her she could!
and like any good older sibling,
she might have -
with her own agenda,
of course!
These two crack me up...
properly repentant -
until next time!

Dog re-imagined
Oreo's haircut really lets her markings show through...
and, while it seems her puppyhood has disappeared
with her more grown up look,
she's not totally
a big girl just yet...
and that's FINE with me!

What a difference a day makes!
The 'scruff' is definitely gone -
and I can't tell if Oreo's angry with me about it
or just exhausted from a day of playing at the groomers -
by all accounts,
she was the belle of the ball
and played all day!
Her 'attitude' was contagious though.
Pearl also refused to give me eye contact.
Guess she resented Oreo having a spa day and not her!
Maybe tomorrow they'll look at me again!
'Til then,
I guess I'll resort
to taking pictures
of my weekly roses!

No matter how close we are to another person,
few human relationships
are as free from strife,
disagreement
and frustration
as is the relationship
you have with a good dog.
We cherish dogs because their unblemished souls makes us wish -
consciously or unconsciously-
that we were as innocent as they are,
and makes us yearn
for a place
where innocence is universal
and where the meanness,
the betrayals
and the cruelties of this world
are unknown.

ps. As much as I love the 'scruffy' look -
it's time for this puppy
to get a big girl grooming
later this week!
Stay tuned.

Dogs are minor angels, and I don't mean that facetiously.
They love unconditionally,
forgive immediately,
are the truest of friends,
willing to do anything that makes us happy,
etcetera.
If we attributed some of those qualities to a person,
we would say they are special.
If they had ALL of them,
we would call them angelic.
But, because it's "only" a dog,
we dismiss them
as sweet or funny
but little more.
However when you think about it,
what are the things that we most like
in another human being?
Many times those qualities are seen in our dogs
every single day - -
we're just so used to them
that we pay no attention.

Update
A broken 'good' camera
has put a serious crimp
in my documenting Oreo
in the past few days.
Having to rely merely on my i-phone camera is OK,
just NOT the standard I'm used to!
How's THAT for a total First World problem!?
Mentioning the word "food"
is a surefire means
to get both their attention!
And,
while Pearl seems content
to gnaw on a chew toy,
Oreo has decided she likes my gloves
(or socks or pantyhose or bras)!
Surgery coming up for Oreo on Monday -
getting 'chipped' and 'spade' -
which I'm sure
sounds more fun than it will be!
Ignorance is bliss!
